Apart from the ebook and audiobook versions, when formatting a book with as much content as The Book on Masks for physical printing, I wanted to allow as much scope as possible for individual preference on the readers' part, and I also had to balance tradeoffs between readability, final cost, presentation, and the printers' requirements (for example, for whatever reason, IngramSpark had to use thicker paper to print the black and white paperback edition when compared to the color paperback).
The bottom line is that the differences in the printings are cosmetic. The actual text across all the printings is identical. For anyone interested in the details, the easiest way to summarize the final result is in the two pictures below where the printings are photographed side-by-side and their stats are compared.
As a side note, I would have put these pictures up in the Amazon book description, but Amazon's policies won't permit this sort of direct comparison. I also had two cover designs that I especially liked, and using two separate printers gave me an opportunity to see both in print, as well as a backup in case one of them fell through.
The direct links to each version are below:
Finally, below are pictures of my second son, Thomas, playing with the two hardcovers. Seeing babies and books brings me joy, and I thought that might be true for some readers, as well.
